Role Overview

EchoStar is hiring a Cloud Engineer I to support AWS cloud environments, Kubernetes clusters, and automated infrastructure platforms used in large-scale wireless and telecom systems. This role focuses on cloud automation, container orchestration, infrastructure reliability, and zero-touch provisioning, making it ideal for engineers building careers in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, SRE, and Platform Engineering.

You will work in production AWS environments, supporting cloud-native applications, Kubernetes-based microservices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated recovery systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage AWS cloud infrastructure, including compute, networking, storage, and security services.
  • Operate and maintain Kubernetes clusters supporting high-availability, scalable microservices.
  • Deploy and manage containerized workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and YAML manifests.
  • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Ansible).
  • Implement zero-touch provisioning, automated recovery, and self-healing systems.
  • Monitor Kubernetes clusters for performance, security, availability, and cost optimization.
  • Troubleshoot Kubernetes issues related to networking, storage, container lifecycle, and scaling.
  • Build automated operational scripts using Python, Bash, or Ansible.
  • Integrate cloud deployments with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins).
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.
  • Participate in Agile / Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of container orchestration, microservices architecture, and cloud-native design.
  • Experience with Helm charts, YAML configurations, and Kubernetes networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with cloud security, monitoring, logging, and automated patching.
  • Ability to collaborate with DevOps, Cloud, and Software Engineering teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced Kubernetes tooling experience with Prometheus, FluentBit, Operators, and Service Mesh.
  • Experience with CI/CD automation using GitLab or Jenkins.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, Ansible, or Perl.
  • Knowledge of Docker, containerd, and container runtime troubleshooting.
  • Exposure to Agile, SAFe, or Lean engineering methodologies.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or AWS certification is a plus.
